He built and ran businesses of his own the entire way through, from a fragrance business he started fresh out of college to a car wash he and Shaun owned just outside Denver, Colorado. He knows what it means to sign the front of the check, not just the back of it, which is why business owners tend to feel understood in his office.

He and Shaun have been married more than 25 years and have two children, Jaida and Jaxon.
